After almost exactly 72 hours in Kansas City, we headed south to Texas. We stayed with the McHusband's Uncle Curtis and Aunt Charlotte, who were very kind to open their home to us for a few days.
We spent time at Uncle Curtis's home away from home - the barn.
What? That's not what you were expecting when I said "barn?"
The garage door on the left is your usual single-car door; the one on the right is for the RV, which was in the shop while we were visiting. But here's a look at where it's usually parked.
In case you didn't know who was in charge out here.
From the barn, we went to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing's Western Currency Facility Tour and Visitor Center in Fort Worth. As with the Harley-Davidson plant, no camera were allowed inside but here's a look at the outside.
We got the see where they're making the new $100 bill. The McHusband tried really hard, but he couldn't charm our tour guide into a free sample.
After that, we went my favorite restaurant in Texas - Fish City!
And guess where we went after that? Now, let me explain something. We shared two pitchers of Fish City's amazingly good margaritas with our dinner so that might've had some influence on our next stop and our teenage-boy delight at the potential name (or was it the original name?) of Fort Worth's equivalent of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit system - a.k.a. DART. Yep, FART. Looking back, it's probably one of those "you had to be there after imbibing half a pitcher of margaritas" thing, but we thought we were hilarious.
Anyway, our next stop was kind of morbid. We visited Curt and Charlotte's final resting places.
(Charlotte, please note that I removed a certain telling number from your side.)
Here's the thing about margaritas in the afternoon. They make you very tired by 8:00. Curtis, Charlotte, and I were watching TV through our eyelids so the McHusband snapped a picture of us.
The next day, we did lots of driving and touring the city, saw some HUGE houses, including Ross Perot's, and eventually ended up at the McHusband's other uncle's store.
One of Uncle Chuck's coworkers had his granddog with him. He was such a sweet dog - until the UPS guy rang the bell at the back. Forget all the guns they sell (and the fact that the employees are all armed); Tank had that place covered.
After the store, we had dinner at a local Mexican restaurant with the McHusband's cousin, Christa, and her husband, Bill. It was great to get a chance to visit with them as well.
Texas treated us well, but we had to say adios to it on Friday and head on home to the Triangle, which must've gotten some rain while we were gone. We had several large limbs down in the backyard. Luckily, none of them did any damage.
Curtis and Charlotte - thank you so much for your hospitality and for spending those days with us. The McHusband and I really appreciate it, and we had a wonderful time with you guys.
(By the way, Curtis, I have some things I need chromed. Do you have someone you could recommend?)
