We went to the San Diego Zoo on Saturday, our first full day in the city. We fueled up first at a little café around the corner.
We took a bus tour of the zoo upon entering and that was a great idea. It didn’t cost anything and it offered an overview of pretty much the entire place.
After the tour, we had a few close encounters.
The Galapagos tortoises were practically within petting distance.
The McHusband and I had differing thoughts about the numbers on their shells.
I said they were tramp stamps; he said they were the tortoises’ racing numbers.
(Scroll quickly, Leigh.)
We got some great pictures of the gorilla who was lounging by the glass.
The McHusband would have an otter for a pet if I let him. (And if it were even legal, of course.)
The elephants were actually active that afternoon.
Toward the end of the day, we got another close encounter with some wildlife. One of the keepers was moving a wolf.
It was on a leash just like it was a regular dog going on a walk.
After the zoo, we drove out to Point Loma.
The McHusband wanted to see some of the hills.
Looking up…
…and down.
We headed back to the hotel and after a nice long nap, we went out for a late dinner then to The Shout House, a dueling piano bar.
Day 3 coming up!

I love the tortoise, the baboons and how amazing to see the wolf being walked on the leash. He looks so docile!
