Connor’s Party: Decorations and Food

We had Connor’s first birthday party on Sunday, his actual birthday.  Since I had some stuff from Vanessa’s baby shower, we went with Mexican food and I re-used some of the décor.

“So you wanna see my party? “

“I helped!”

We hung some plastic papel picado and sombreros on the front porch (Thanks for braving the cold and the wind, Mom!), and Bri was kind enough to make one of her super cute chalkboard signs.

The “C” was my idea, but my mom did the hard work and wrapped it in the different yarns.  On a related note: Anyone want a navy, orange, turquoise, and lime green sweater knitted for them?  I just might have a lot of yarn left.  To clarify, I am not offering to actually knit the sweater, just provide the yarn.  Don’t want anyone to get the wrong idea.

As with all my parties, I set the food and drinks up in the dining room.  Let’s start with dessert first.  You know you want to. Smile

From left to right: vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream, sopapilla cheesecake, a margarita glass of chocolates, sombrero sugar cookies, key lime fudge (better than it sounds, promise!), and brownies with the best frosting ever.

The dining room table got moved against the wall and I set up a taco bar: hard and soft shells, beef and chicken, refried beans, guacamole, tomatoes, sour cream, lettuce, jalapenos, salsa, and cheese.

Shannon brought her quesadilla maker so we also had quesadillas for the kids.

Over on the drink table, I had chips with a spicy spinach-artichoke dip.  I doubled the recipe and thank goodness I did because the maybe one-cup that was left got munched on by Bri and me once everything wrapped up.

Drinks included: sangria, sodas, water, margaritas, juice boxes for the kids, and beer that we kept cold out on the deck, no cooler necessary.  Oh yeah, did I mention that Sunday’s high was 30?  At least it was dry and sunny.

Next up: Getting smashed!

Everything was so cute! Love that your theme was "warm weatherish" and you had freezing weather, and ours was winterish and we had unseasonably high temps! Oh well :)

How lovely birthday party! Your son is so lucky to have you as his mother. I just loved everything that you did on his birthday. The décor part is my favorite. I will also organize my daughter’s fifth birthday at one of her favorite party venues Houston TX.
