The Patio Project: Part III

Part III: The Wall
We decided to do a retaining wall a couple feet from the back of the house instead of taking the patio right up to the siding. There were some technical reasons, but one of the most important reasons was that a wall would provide lots of seating as well as a built-in flower box.

We went with a "wall system" from Home Depot that looked like stacked stone. It was a touch pricier than our other best option, but we decided that we liked it enough to pay the few extra cents per paver.

And now it's time for the pictures of the McHusband hard at work. Hey, somebody has to take the pictures.

"Hey, McHusband, how's the wall going?"

"That well, huh? Keep up the good work. You'll be done in a month."

He had to level out the sand just right, place the stone, then use the rubber mallet to pound it into place. Somewhere along this line of stones is when he accidentally hit his finger with the mallet and he said it hurt, but he didn't realize the extent of his injury until he saw the bloodstain in the fingertip of his glove. Luckily it wasn't too bad and he was able to get right back to work.

And now, due to the magic of the internet, here's the wall after the McHusband spent two days on it:

I really liked what the McHusband did with the two ends of the wall. He curved them back toward the house and they look really good.

Guess what? You get to see the finished patio in the next patio post.
