Dining room redo

This isn't really an "after" post because the dining room still needs a lot of work: curtains, a rug, new light fixture, paint the bottom of the hutch, hang floating shelves and my wineglass shelves... But the paint looks great and the room's usable so I had to share.

First, some before pictures. This is REALLY before because we hadn't moved in yet.

And here it is about midway through the squares project during a certain supervisor's check of the progress.

You just saw what it looked like with the first coat of the blue-gray and only a couple coats of the white.

So, without further adieu, I give you THE DINING ROOM!

I can't vouch for your computers, but I think the color's actually coming through pretty true in these pictures. Contrary to popular belief (one shared by the McHusband and Chelle), it's NOT purple. Nor is it greenish like Eric thought.

I have to do a close-up of the McHusband's squares. He was disappointed that his squares don't stand out more so I have to be sure and feature them.

Painting this room was very educational. We should've primed the bottom before putting the squares up. I should've bought new paint instead of being cheap and using the gallon I found in our shed that'd probably been out there since the house was built (in 2004). The paint was more the consistency of paste and not real easy to work with as evidenced by the five layers of paint and certain, um, architectural details left behind in the paint. Here's a tip: Don't go back over not-yet-dried tacky paint with a brush full of paste-like paint. It's not pretty.

Also, don't let your supervisor walk through the room when you know he's in a good mood.

I'm very happy with how the room turned out, and even happier that the McHusband really likes it, especially considering all the hard work he put in to get it to this point.

From the paneling to the color - gorgeous! What a difference a bit of trim and a couple of gallons of paint make, eh?
