Some of us ran a 5k for Heather’s daughter’s middle school’s booster club (Got all that?) this past Saturday.
“Us” included Leigh, Mickey, Tawnya, Kim, Heather, Bianca, Bronte, the McHusband and me. For once, we didn’t have to drive halfway across town in the predawn hours to get to one of these runs. This one didn’t start until 8:30 and it was only 3.5 miles away.
See Leigh and Mickey (yellow shirt) at the front of the pack? They were ready to run! You can just spot the McHusband and me on the left side of the picture.
And we’re off!
It was a little humid and there wasn’t much reprieve from the sun, but it really was a nice morning to be out participating in this event.
Mickey, with a chip time of 20:11, was the first of our group and fourth person overall to finish.
Leigh was just behind him – sixth overall and first woman to finish, woot woot! She ran the race in 21 minutes flat.
Next, with a time of 22:24, came yours truly – second woman to finish and 12th overall.
The McHusband wasn’t far behind; he finished in 25:09.
He’s wearing a Ford shirt and said he was a sponsored runner.
Next up: Tawnya! She crossed the finish line in 34:39.
Heather and Bronte finished just a couple minutes later in 37:33.
Bianca crossed the finish line in an even 39 minutes.
Finishing in just under 51 minutes, Kim wasn’t last! She was pretty excited about that. :) (In case you don’t know, Kim is about 7 months pregnant.)
Heather and Leigh each had their satellite watches on. Their watches said the race was 2.95 and 2.89 miles respectively, but either distance is NOT 3.1 miles a.k.a. the traditional length of a 5k. The irony was that the race finished at the school’s track so it would’ve been pretty easy for the race organizers to add however much longer was necessary to complete the distance.
The race was a good way to start our Cinco de Mayo. Want a clue as to how it ended?
More on that soon!
